LOCATION AND SEASON
Ambikapur is located at an altitude of 611 above MSL latitude 23°09' and
longitude 83°08' East. Raj Mohini Devi College of Agriculture and Research
Station is situated about 6 km away from Ambikapur city towards west on the
Manendragarh Road. Ambikapur city is the district headquarter, which comes under
Surguja district. Surguja means "Gunjan of Sur". This place is full of
vegetation, covered with dense forests, having beautiful rivers, water falls
etc. Ambikapur city is well connected with few big cities by road such as Raipur
(capital of Chhattisgarh State about 350 km), Ranchi (capital of Jharkhand State
about 330 km) and Varanasi (big city of Uttar Pradesh State about 330 km). This
city is well surrounded by the hills with green vegetation. One of the hilly
places is the Mainpat which is 80 km away from Ambikapur. Mainpat has 'Tiger
point', 'Mehta Point', 'Fish Point' etc, places of tourist interest.
TEACHING
With the formation of Chhattisgarh as a new state, Govt. of Chhattisgarh felt
that for the development of agriculture sector of the state, agriculture
education is very important for the state. In the view of above, Zonal
Agricultural Research Station (ZARS) was upgraded as College of Agriculture and
Research Station on September 20, 2001. The first academic year started from
2001-02. Presently five batches have passed out. Institute has very experienced
teaching staff. Post Graduate programme for M.Sc. (Agril.) in different
discipline can be initiated.
WEATHER REPORT:
Average annual rainfall is 1405.7 m.m. Maximum rainfalls in between mid July to
August. The stable rainfall period is of three moths with 57 active rainy days.
