Extension is one of the third major mandates of the Vishwavidyalaya. Extension activities relating to the transfer of improved technologies, front line demonstrations, advisory services, training, publicity and documentation, diagnostic services, adaptive research, crop surveys, refresher courses for extension worker and farmers etc. are coordinated by the Directorate of Extension. Trainings, demonstrations of improved technologies, exhibition, melas, gosthi etc. conducted under various projects and colleges are however the boundaries of this Directorate in addition to activities performed by Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). The Directorate has 20 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) located as Ambikapur, Bhatapara (Raipur), Bilaspur, Dantewida, Dhamtari, Durg (Anjora,) Jagdalpur, Janjgir-champa Jashpur, Kanker, Korb4 Korea, Kawardha Kabirdham), Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon, Raigarh. KVKs established in 20l2 are Narayanpur, Balrampur, Gariyaband and Bijapur.

नवोन्वेषी कृषकों को किसान-फेलोशिप:
इंदिरा गांधी कृषि विश्वविद्यालय, रायपुर द्वारा कृषि क्षेत्र में संलग्न कृषक, कृषक महिलाएं एवं कृषि उद्यमियों द्वारा किये जा रहे कृषि से संबंधित कार्यों में नवीन तकनीकी प्रयास एवं उनके द्वारा नवोन्वेषी कार्य कर कृषि की विकास यात्रा की सम्पूर्ण जानकारी का ब्यौरा पुस्तक के रूप में सचित्र प्रकाशन किया जाना प्रस्तावित है। ऐसे कृषकों में चयनित कृषकों को विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा एक वर्ष के लिये रु. 5000/- की किसान-फेलोशिप दी जावेगी।
